Michelangelo's 'David' Started in 1501 the superb statue of the young David ushered in the Cinquecento and the period known as the High Renaissance.

Caesar

Janus

Il Palazzo

Caesar Janus Il Palazzo

Presiding over guests in the first floor lobby is Gaius Julius Caesar Octavian, who took the title Augustus "the revered'. He was Rome's first and perhaps greatest emperor and was Julius Caesar's adopted son. Having eliminated the leaders of the old republic, he ruled from 27BC - 14AD.

Janus, the Roman god of thresholds and beginnings - the day, month, year and other major activities - even the month of January is named after him. Janus is represented as two-faced, having the ability to look both forward and back.

So named in homage of the magnificent Renaissance palaces found in Rome - over 50 of which still survive in an area only a mile in diameter.
